Low-carbon steel sheet, also known as mild steel sheet is now the most common form of steel because its price is relatively low while it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications. Low-carbon steel contains approximately 0.05–0.25% carbon making it malleable and ductile. Mild steel has a relatively low tensile strength, but it is cheap and easy to form; surface hardness can be increased through carburizing.
The disadvantage of carbon steel plate is that its thermal hardness is not good. When it is used as tool material, its hardness and wear resistance will become worse when the temperature exceeds 200 ° C. His hardenability is poor. When water quenching, the diameter is usually maintained at 15 to 18 mm, while when not quenched, the diameter and thickness are usually 6 mm. Therefore, deformation or cracking is easy to occur.
